WEEK 1: Hot Chocolate Self-Heating Mask | Montagne Jeunesse Mask Off Roundup

17 Bloggers. 5 weeks. 5 Montagne Jeunesse Face Masks go head to head in a challenge that will go down in Canadian Beauty Blogger history as legendary. Think Iron Chef but Face Mask style.

Each week, the bloggers will review a different kind of mask - Self-Heating, Peel-Off, Oil, Scrub, and Mud. Each mask is to be marked out of 20 with up to 5 points allocated to each of the categories of Comfort, Aroma, Results, and Ease of Use. Each week, I'll tally up the results and summarize them here. At the end of the 5 weeks, we'll compare the scores and declare a winner!

Our first competitor is the Montagne Jeunesse Hot Chocolate Pore Cleansing Sauna Masque (Self-Heating). Here are the results:

Comfort - 4.38/5

"The self-heating is really nice, but it only lasted about 5-10 seconds and then it went away. However, this mask was still very comfortable." - Chantal's Corner

"I am always nervous when trying out a "heating" product as my skin is very sensitive. So at first I was a bit freaked out by the sensation. After it subsided, I liked that the mask didn't cake up and tighten." - Workday Ramblings

Aroma - 4.92/5

Across the board, all Canadian Beauty Bloggers thought that the aroma of the Chocolate mask was absolutely, positively delightful. I mean, seriously? It's chocolate. You've got to be crazy to not like chocolate. Some of us may have even tasted it (not recommended).

Results - 3.08/5

Results varied, regardless of skin type. Some experienced the unclogging of pores and baby soft skin, while others broke out or experienced sensitivity.

"It did shrink my pores a little bit but did not unclog blackheads like Glamglow masks do, for example. Since this is meant for oily skin and mine is dry, it left some red patches and made it a bit too dry. My skin WAS very soft though." - Swatch and Review

"My skin felt baby bottom smooth when it was all said and done.  It's actually still smooth several days later." - Nicole About Town

"VERY drying, might compromise the moisture barrier...but it did an amazing job of pulling gunk out of my pores." - KalynLord.com

"I didn't notice any real difference in my skin, but I have pretty normal skin to begin with..." - Exquisitely Chic

Ease of Use - 3.15/5

"Super easy to apply. The mask doesn't dry like a clay and stays relatively "wet" throughout. Just wipe off with a wet face cloth and you're good!" - Cosmetic Proof

"I had a bit of difficulty open the package without spilling the mask, but applying it to my face was fine. It was thick enough that it didn't drip and make a mess" - Megan Joy

TOTAL SCORE - 15.83/20

Price and Availability: $1.99 at Walmart, Value Drug Mart, Familiprix, Lawtons Drugs, and Farleyco.ca

So far so good. That's all for today, folks! Next week is... PEEL OFF, so stay tuned for that! :)
