VIOLENT LIPS Raspberry Swirl Lip Tattoos

Once in a while, a product takes me back to a time when I was in Grade 3, obsessed with that bad a$$ feeling that you get when you've got a Spiderman tattoo on your knee. I was totally that girl and I had a nostalgic throwback moment with the Violent Lips Raspberry Swirl Glitterati Mix Lip Appliques ($9.99 at obsessedcanada.com with free, no-minimum shipping within Canada).

Violent Lips are like the all grown-up version of temporary tattoos, regarded by Allure magazine as the "future of lipstick". Keep in mind that they're still for bad a$$es (like myself) and not for the faint of heart.

The Raspberry Swirl Lip Appliques are a pack of 3 dual-toned pink glitter lips. Nothing says rebellious glitter princess more than these glitter lips. The product itself is vegan, gluten and latex free.

Application is fairly straightforward and similar to that of a temporary tattoo. First, you pop the pieces out and measure the applique to your lips. The paper backing has detailed lines and instructions for fitting the width and depth of the product to your own. It took all of three snips to fit to my lips (two on the sides and one on the bottom). I was doubtful of the fit but it worked out pretty well in the end. Next, you peel off the plastic film and press the sticky side on the lips. Then, wet a cotton ball and pat the paper until it is soaked. The paper should slip off when the lip applique is stuck to your lips. Lastly, you seal the product in by dabbing a bit more water over top, concentrating on the outer edges of the mouth.

My first attempt was a fail because I didn't use enough water and part of the tattoo didn't stick to my lips. I was left with peeling, uneven glitter lips. Take two was much more successful. The end result was pretty darn amazing from afar. I'm going to avoid my typical close up lips photo because my lips looked wonky at the corners and required a lot more water that I actually used. Application takes a while to get used to but once I got the hang of it, it wasn't too tedious.

Violent Lips claims that the lip appliques last 4 to 8 hours with eating and drinking. I'd agree with the lower side of that spectrum, but they do last a lot longer than I had initially expected. The great thing about a glitter lip tattoo rather than actual glitter lips is that you wouldn't be eating the glitter because the product stays put.

Could this be the lipstick of the future? Unfortunately, I think not. I prefer applying my lipstick straight out of the tube (it's faster and easier). However, patterns, colours, and designs (glitter, rainbow, leopard, polka dot) aren't something that can be mimicked by a simple tube of lipstick, so if you're looking for something fun and wild, be sure to check out what Violent Lips has to offer on the Obsessed Canada website!

What do you think of lip tattoos? Would you ever try them?
